The Cadillac Kings Burnley Blues Festival 2006
...Then it was back downstairs to the Cellar Bar to catch the Slim-Line Papas. I wasn't going to stay long to see these, as it was a trio with a double bass, playing rockabilly(?), but I got caught up with the act and I have to say that they were, for me, the best act on the bill. Absolutely awesome playing from each one of them, with the guitarist hitting notes on his guitar that shouldn't be possible! Paul (sic), the singer and bass player is so absolutely full of enthusiasm and a manic approach to his instrument that he reminded me of Mike Sanchez - he has that same energy. I look forward to catching these guys again.

Once again at the The
Elme Hall Rock & Blues Club we have been entertained by some exceptional
musicians. This time it was the Slim Line Papas who created a great
atmosphere and delighted us with two of the best sets yet.
A three piece outfit from Lincoln, Pete O'Brien (Vocals and Double
Bass), Egly Lucas (Guitars and Vocals) and Mark Barrett (Drums) enjoyed their
audience as much as the audience enjoyed the band.
They have a wide and varied repertoire of music but they simply describe
themselves as a rhythm and blues band.
We were treated to some of the best rock 'n' roll, swing, rockabilly and
traditional blues that you could wish for. All this in a real party
atmosphere created by the guys, not least by vocalist Pete's flair
(antics/affair) with his double bass.
Egly plays some subtle blues with a distinctive sound of his own on
guitars that I gather he builds himself and is a real pleasure to listen to.
Mark is one of those rare drummers that you find yourself concentrating
on as the band plays and the whole thing just comes together.
We listened to Smokestack Lightning, My Babe, Little Red
Rooster, Route 66, Spoonful and many more, played with energy and
feeling throughout. After a standing ovation followed by a brilliant version of
Baby Please Don't Go the afternoon ended with smiles all round and
the echoes of another awesome Sunday session at the Elme Hall Rock and Blues
Club.
Michael Mead, Fenweb.
I was just about to leave the building when I caught an earful of brilliant upright bass thumpin' and jumpin' excitedly out of the open portals of the Mini Muni. The place was full and the audience spilled out onto the entranceways and beyond - even those sat outside kept their ears cocked to hear the fabulous sound coming out onto the street. Those of us lucky enough to inch our way in were treated to a tremendous fun packed session of over the top rockabilly, jump jive and bouncing blues. They were 'The Slimline Papas' and I tell you after that stonking great performance were the talk of the festival thereafter!! I loved it and was not alone in that emotional enthusiasm for them either.

You're like The Night Porters on acid.
